US-NAVY DECK JACKET N-1

April 20, 2024

In the early 1940s, the N-1 deck Jacket was a durable, warm and functional jacket for sailors working on ships and ships. The overall construction of the jacket combined a thick outer layer of “Jungle Cloth” with a wool lining that made it wind and water resistant, so the wearer remained warm and comfortable even in the harshest conditions. Early versions of the N-1s had an alpaca fur lining. The fabric color of the N-1 Deck Jacket has been changed from navy blue to a shade of olive green to allow for better camouflage of USN personnel both at sea and during landing operations. After World War II the deck jacket was modified again, with the most notable difference being the change in color from light olive to dark olive green. The N-1 deck jackets were completely phased out in the 1960s, when they were replaced by the A-2 deck jackets.
